What CA$700 Actually Gets You in the Used Flagship Market (2026)

I’ve been living in the used phone market lately. Not for me, for a friend. His budget: $700, hard cap. After way too many hours scrolling listings, here’s what I learned: $700 is the sweet spot. It’s where last year’s flagships go to become reasonable.

The $700 tier: Pixel 9 Pro XL and Galaxy S24 Ultra

At $700 or under, two names keep coming up: the Pixel 9 Pro XL and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. I’ve seen clean Pixel 9 Pro XLs land between $500 and $675 depending on storage and condition. A 93% battery, unlocked, no-scratches deal at $500 is out there if you’re patient. S24 Ultras float in the same ballpark when they pop up. These were $1,300+ phones not long ago. Now they’re $700. That’s not a sale, that’s depreciation doing you a favor.

What $700 does NOT get you

The iPhone 15 Pro Max with 90%+ battery health at $700? Good luck. I’ve watched that hunt for weeks and it basically doesn’t exist. The ones at $700 have 85% battery or some other compromise, and the clean ones with high battery health sit at $750 and up. Apple tax is real. If you’re an iPhone person, that’s just the price of admission. Know what you’re signing up for, and check the battery before you pay, my iPhone battery health guide walks through the whole thing.

My pick at this budget

I’ve owned a Pixel 9 Pro XL, bought used for around $700. Day to day it feels faster than my iPhone. Snappier scrolling, quicker app switching, just less standing around waiting. The iPhone takes nicer photos, I’ll give it that, but for everything else the Pixel keeps up or beats it. At $700 used, it’s honestly the best value flagship you can buy right now. lol at paying double for the new one.

How to actually buy at this price

The price band is only half the battle. At $700 you’re buying from strangers, so do the homework. Run every listing through the ByteFlip red flag checklist before you even message the seller. Meet in public, check the IMEI, make sure it’s not iCloud or Google locked, and never pay before you hold the phone. And read how I hunt for cheap iPhones, the same playbook works for Pixels and Samsungs: patience beats impulse every time.

Nobody needs to pay retail in 2026. $700 in the used market buys you a phone that was the best in the world 18 months ago. That’s the whole ByteFlip philosophy. Value, not price.
