Flipping Files: Classified – The Midnight EMT Scam That Almost Got Me

This one almost got me.

I was selling a MacBook Pro for $2,000. A guy messages me late—like 11PM—and says he “needs it right now” for his dad. I tell him maybe tomorrow morning. He insists, “my dad really needs it tonight.”

🚩 Sketch level rising.

A car passes my house slowly… then turns around. A guy in a hoodie starts walking up, looking around like he’s casing the place. He doesn’t even ask basic stuff like:

“How long have you had it?”
“Why are you selling?”

Just glances at the MacBook and goes, “Yeah, okay,” in like 5 seconds.

Then comes the move:

“Can I bring this to my car so my dad can check it out?”

I tell him nope—not until I see the EMT money in my account.

He waits with me awkwardly for 10 minutes. Keeps looking at his phone.
Then says, “Let me go talk to my dad real quick.”

Gets in the car.
Drives off.
Never comes back.

💡 Want to avoid getting scammed like that? Here’s my checklist for spotting sketchy listings and bad buyers.

💡 ByteFlip Tip:

Never hand over anything until the money is in your account.
Not pending. Not “on the way.”
I don’t care if your dad, grandma, or cat needs it tonight—ain’t happening.

Some of these scams rely on panic, pressure, and late-night confusion. Stay sharp, and always meet in daylight if you can.

When I do score a legit deal, this is how I clean and flip it the smart way.
