My Thoughts on the New iPhone Duo

After using Android foldables for many years, Apple has FINALLY announced its own foldable.

And honestly, I think it looks good.

But the thing that impressed me the most isn’t really the hardware. It’s the software.

Apple redesigned the UI around the foldable form factor, and I really like the attention to detail. Even small things, like how the interface works when you’re using the phone on the right side, show that Apple didn’t just take iOS and put it on a folding phone. They actually had to rethink how the software should work.

And then there’s the folding animation.

This might sound like a small thing, but I’ve always thought this was one area where Android foldables could be better. After using Samsung foldables over the years, I’ve seen plenty of little weird moments when opening or closing the phone. Sometimes an app needs to reload, the layout doesn’t transition properly, or there’s just a little bit of lag.

Apple’s approach looks much more seamless.

What really caught my attention is what happens when you close the Duo. The software appears to smoothly move between the two displays without the app crashing, freezing, or having to reload.

That’s the kind of detail I expect from Apple.

Apple Didn’t Invent Foldables

Obviously, none of this means Apple invented anything new.

Android manufacturers have been making foldable phones for years. We’ve already seen things like multiple cameras, using the outer display for selfies, under-display cameras, multitasking, and all kinds of different folding designs.

So I’m not looking at the Duo thinking, wow, Apple invented the foldable phone.

That’s not what interests me.

What interests me is what Apple can do with the software now that they’re finally in the game.

Apple has had years to watch Samsung and other Android manufacturers experiment with foldables. They’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and where the software experience can be improved.

Now they get to put their own spin on it.

And honestly, that’s what I’m most excited about.

I’m Curious About What’s Next

Of course, we still need to actually use the phone before knowing how good it really is. What looks great in Apple’s presentation doesn’t always tell the whole story.

But so far, I’m genuinely excited.

I’ve been using Android foldables for years, so seeing Apple finally enter this market is pretty interesting to me. I’m especially curious to see how the software evolves over the next few years.

Because if Apple can make the basic experience feel this seamless from the start, imagine what the software could look like after a few generations.

That’s the part I’m looking forward to.
