Flipping Files: Classified #2 – “Too Good, Too Cheap, Too Late: The 1AM ‘Deal’ That Almost Got Me Jumped”

Too Good, Too Cheap, Too Late – Trust Your Gut

There was this one time I saw an iPhone listed for $200–300 cheaper than the usual going rate. Looked clean, description was normal, and I’ll admit… I got a little excited.

The seller said he was free to meet at a public place, which is usually a green flag. But then he said:

“I can only meet around 1AM… I work late shift.”

Sounds a bit sus, but okay. I tried to flip it:

“How about early morning before I go to work?”

“Nope, only late night.”

At this point my gut was already like: hmm… weird… but maybe he’s just working nights.
I went anyway—but I went smart.

I pulled into the grocery plaza where we were supposed to meet. Totally empty parking lot. No cars. No seller in sight. So I hung back.

I parked far away and texted:

“Hey, I’m just pulling in. Let’s meet out front.”

And then I saw it.

One guy walked up front like normal…
But behind the store, I spotted two other guys trying to stay out of sight.

That’s when it clicked.
This wasn’t a deal. This was a setup.

My gut screamed get out now—and I did.

I messaged him:

“Hey, I’m gonna pass.”

And then he replies with:

“Ok, I’ll give it to you for even cheaper.”

Yeah… no real seller lowers the price on an already underpriced phone after you flake. That’s pure scammer behavior.

💡 ByteFlip Tip:

If the deal is:

  • Too cheap
  • Too rushed
  • Too off-hours
  • And your gut is saying “uhhh…”

Trust it.

There are way too many sketchy buyers and setups out there. iPhones are hot items—and scammers know it.

No deal is worth your safety.

Still flipping. Still alive. Still not meeting at 1AM in a ghost town parking lot.
